Research of Mobile Cellular Network Field Prediction Based on GIS

  • The thesis focused on the advantages of GIS in combining spatial and non-spatial database of cellular network to produce necessary parameters that can help predicting cellular network coverage more accurate. The study developed a GIS model for predicting signal coverage of Cityphone mobile network in Hochiminh City,Vietnam based on COST-231-Walfisch-Ikegami model. The model can help determining radio-line-of-sight and non-radio-line-of-sight condition. In addition,in case of non-radio-line-of-sight condition, average building height, building separation, building width, incident radio path, and road orientation with respect to the direct radio path were produced by using GIS.In this application, orientation loss due to the road orientation with respect to the direct radio path, multiscreen diffraction loss, and shadowing gain were carried out for more accurate prediction. The maps used in the experiment is with the scale of 1∶2 000.Because there is no exact building height so the average of 3 m floor height was used. The statistical result shows that the path loss was predicted by the GIS model overcome the measured path loss of each cell station, and it can be used for microcellular coverage predicting in urban areas.
