The Establishment of Yadong-Golmud Global Geoscience Transect GIS

For the purpose of studying lithosphere structure of all continents in the world, the International-union Committee of Lithosphere, sponsored by different countries and organizations, set up global geoscience transect (GGT) project which includes more than 200 transects crossed major geological structures.In order to understand China continental lithosphere and its tectonic, structure, dynamics and material composition, the relationship among the different transects, and improve the knowledge about the earth's evolution and activity, the GGT GIS project was carried into practice and was founded by China Natural Science Committee.Based on the geological information, geophysical information, geographical and geophysical interpretation information, etc., along the Yadong-Golmud transect, which is one of the eleven transects in China, the transect geographic information system was established.This paper mainly focuses on the establishment process of Yadong-Golmud transect under the Geo Trans GIS environment which was specially designed for global geoscience transect based on the TITAN GIS.It includes:designing the framework of the system, making standard codes for attribute and spatial database, building the Yadong-Golmud transect attribute and spatial database.In the end, the initial interpretation is given to show the importance and advantages of Yadong-Golmud global geoscience transect GIS.
