  • In the paper,a varied cross section pile is taken into consideration.The pile is subjected to horizontal force,bending moment and vertical load.With the finite element method and non-linear programming,the optimal solution to the relationship between the pile's diameter and depth is obtained.As an example the paper shows that minimum weight pile can save up to 49% of the concrete used.

Laterally Loaded Pile's Minimum Weight Design

Abstract: In the paper,a varied cross section pile is taken into consideration.The pile is subjected to horizontal force,bending moment and vertical load.With the finite element method and non-linear programming,the optimal solution to the relationship between the pile's diameter and depth is obtained.As an example the paper shows that minimum weight pile can save up to 49% of the concrete used.
