Laterally Loaded Pile's Minimum Weight Design

In the paper,a varied cross section pile is taken into consideration.The pile is subjected to horizontal force,bending moment and vertical load.With the finite element method and non-linear programming,the optimal solution to the relationship between the pile's diameter and depth is obtained.As an example the paper shows that minimum weight pile can save up to 49% of the concrete used.
