  • The research on the Neotectonic movement and Quaternary in Wuhan area is very closely connected with the civic construction of Wuhan.The paper outlines the basic characteristics of Neotectonics and quaternary in the area.The content of the paper is as follows:The reserch on the formation of sediments,tectonics and geological characteristics of the Qingshanstratigraphy in Wuhan area shows that it is not a fluvial deposits,but an aeolian deposits;the paper outlines the main features from lower pleistocene stratum up to the present stratum in Wuhan area;the activity of fault zones and Quaternary faults in the area are investigated the stablity of the earth's crust and the Neotectonic movements in the area are analysed.Researchs on the background of seismo-geology and seismicity in the area are also carried out.Though it has been virtually free of devastating earthquakes in historic times in the area,we must pay special attention to recent seismic tendency and the risk caused by the earthquakes in adjacent territories.The paper not only outlines the present status of studies on Neotectonic movement and Quaternary in Wuhan area but also research the new trends in the field.
