  • After reviewing the up-to-date road network models and analyzing the critical limitations,the next generation model is proposed,which is characterized by ① the real lanes are considered as the basic modelling primitive;② the 3D lane-to-lane topology is generated;and ③ comprehensive analysis and realistic visualization are available.With the quick development of high-accurate positioning technologies and virtual geographic environments(VGE),lane-oriented 3D road network models would play more and more important roles in ITS and urban infrastructure management.
