Abstract
Precise estimations of zonal net primary production(NPP) of different type of vegetation are vital for understanding global carbon circulation. After categorizing land cover types,NPP values for each type by the proposed method are calculated. The annual NPP for evergreen vegetation calculated by the proposed method agrees with 2001 IPCC report within the algorithm's error of 26%.To validate the proposed method, the satellite data-based NPP values for the evergreen and paddy areas with values derived from land-survey data are compared. The annual NPP of a temperate forest estimated by the proposed method on Yoshino Mountain is(1.52±0.39)kg CO2/m2·a,which agrees with the ground-survey result of(1.50±0.75)kg CO2/m2·a.
