Abstract
Common interactive maps are usually controlled by mouse, keyboard and touch, but there are few studies which directly use eye gaze to control map interaction. Since gaze implies humans' psychological state and area of interest, its application, as the input of map interaction, is not only helpful to the disabled but may make interactive maps easier to use.We employ TobiiEyeX eye tracker as the input device. Firstly, for fixation point redundancy and feedback delay in the gaze-controlled interactive map, we introduce the method of acquiring gaze data, fixation point filtering algorithm and gazed polygon localization algorithm. Furthermore, we design controls controlled by gaze and develop a prototype system of the gaze-controlled interactive map. Finally, we design an experiment to evaluate the algorithms and the prototype system. In the experiment, we compare the time taken by users to complete the same map-browsing task with gaze control and mouse control. The result shows that the proposed methods are effective and the prototype system can be used well.
