Abstract: The concept of the basic tone of thematic map color is described;and visual susceptibility of different tonality is analyzed based on theories of map design.Then the rules and steps of design of basic tone of thematic map color are put forward;and key color designs,including classificatory color,distinction color and rifeness color,are discussed in detail.
