A Generalized Hausdorff Distance for Spatial Objects in GIS

  • Existing computational models for the distance between spatial objects are evaluated. The concept of the Hausdorff distance is introduced as a metric indicator. This distance is further extended to form a new concept-generalized Hausdorff distance, which is a more generic model suitable for different types of spatial objects. This distance model includes two measures: distance range and median Hausdorff distance. The former represents the dispersion of whole distance distribution, and the latter represents the central tendency of the distance distribution. In the meantime,a practical example with various types of spatial objects is provided to illustrate the implementation of this model in the Arcview.
